About Us
The Microbial Genomics and Analytical Laboratory (MGAL) at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa is one of three core facilities supported by the COBRE ICEMHH grant and functions as a dedicated, centralized molecular and analytical core. Our core serves the UH community as well as outside users. We are located in the new Life Sciences Building near the Kennedy Theater. MGAL houses the necessary instrumentation to provide a wide variety of services, such as high-throughput DNA/RNA extractions, amplicon library preparation using the Earth Microbiome Project primers, natural product and small molecule analysis, and culturing and storage of microbial strains. We offer low-cost fees for user-operated instruments and full-service molecular requests carried out by trained technicians.
Because MGAL is supported by the NIH COBRE ICEMHH grant, all users must sign an MGAL User Agreement prior to utilizing the facility and its resources. This MGAL User Agreement should be signed by the Principal Investigator and must be updated annually. Principal Investigators are responsible for providing MGAL with a list of authorized users covered under their MGAL User Agreement.
Signed MGAL User Agreements will be accepted via campus mail, email (mgal@hawaii.edu), and in-person.
