The Insectary for Scientific Training and Advances in Research (InSTAR) at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa is one of three core facilities supported by the COBRE ICEMHH grant and functions as a dedicated, centralized insectary core. Our core serves the UH community as well as outside users. We are located in the new Life Sciences Building near the Kennedy Theater at LSB 302. InSTAR aims to create the necessary infrastructure needed for proper insect-rearing conditions. Its goal is to promote research on insect microbiotas and advance research in medical entomology by providing core services and training. We offer low-cost fees for insect-rearing equipment and services, a collaborative lab and rearing space, bioBUBBLE insect containment, and other training and insect-management services.
