The overarching theme of my research program is to better characterize the microbial communities that underpin high latitude ecosystems and dominate biodiversity and functioning. Towards this end, my research program has focused on the characterization of the diversity, dynamics, function, and interactions of viruses and their microbial hosts in representative aquatic and cryospheric ecosystems of the High Canadian Arctic, a region that is rapidly transforming due to climate change.
As the incoming director of the MICRO core facility at UHM, and as a researcher with experience in microbiome science, I will work with my team to ensure that the scientists of the ICEHMM are supported by the expertise and instrumentation in optics necessary to achieve their objectives.
